Jonathan has been defending companies, individuals, insurance companies and self-insurer funds across a broad spectrum of lawsuits throughout Alabama for over 20 years.

His client base includes workers’ compensation self-insured companies, self-insurer funds, insurance companies, and third-party administrators (TPA); and general liability insurers. Among others, Jonathan has represented clients in the construction industry, trucking industry, food service and production industry, automobile, health and rehabilitation, municipalities, and in manufacturing. He also has handled matters involving small business disputes and online, print and photography publishing. Jonathan has tried numerous cases to both jury verdicts and bench judgments (non-jury) in a host of counties throughout Alabama and has, through dismissal or settlement, successfully resolved close to one thousand more. Jonathan has also successfully prosecuted and defended many cases on appeal resulting in several reported appellate decisions.

As the son and grandson of lifetime coal miners and steelworkers, Jonathan maintains a deep respect for the industries that served as a backbone for this state. In keeping with his heritage, he worked his way through both college and law school in several fields that he now has the privilege of representing as a lawyer. While in law school and afterwards, Jonathan served for three years as the law clerk for the presiding judge of the Circuit Court for Jefferson County (Birmingham), Alabama. During this time he gained a valuable perspective on the litigation process, researching and working on decisions for a variety of cases from products liability to medical malpractice and breach of contract issues.

Jonathan is an AV rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell. He is active in many local, statewide and national organizations affiliated with insurance defense litigation. He currently serves as president of the Alabama Workers’ Compensation Defense Lawyers Association. He is past chair of the Workers’ Compensation Committee of DRI, the preeminent international gathering of attorneys defending businesses and individuals in civil litigation, and served as chair of the Workers’ Compensation section of the Alabama State Bar from 2012 to 2013.
